Food | Oyamel Cocina Mexicana
Oyamel Cocina Mexicana is ready to envelope you in a home-cooked meal that will tantalize your tastebuds.
The Oyamel tree is alight with Monarch butterflies once a year. In Mexico these critters are believed to carry the spirits of the dead. The theme of Oyamel Cocina Mexicana is fitting: it’s decked in the Monarch butterfly’s enticing orange and black colors are displayed brightly through this enchanting restaurant.
I ordered Sopa tarasca estilo Pátzcuaro or black bean soup. It was piping hot, and the beans were smooth and creamy, interspersed with little bursts of crunchy onion strips. The garlic and onions flavor the soup, but it’s the tomatoes and chiles that really tie the dish together. Toasted sesame seeds garnish the dish, along with a layer of cool sour cream.
With it’s bright and cheery atmosphere, attentive waiters, and laid-back diners, Oyamel Cocina Mexicana is a great place to sit back and relax. There’s a fun black and white silent film playing over the Cerviche bar, and the whole place feels very alive. I would definitely recommend it for an after-five drink (or three), or a nice, romantic date.
This is a restaurant to be yourself in, with food that reminds you of home-cooking in all the best ways.
