FITO 2

If you haven’t already fallen in love with Fito Blanko‘s soulful lyrics and heavenly sound, it’s about time you joined the denizen of fans already flocking to him. He’s not only got a killer voice and an excess of talent in the musical arts… he’s also a genuinely kind person, who was loads of fun to talk with! This man is the real deal, and trust us – he’s going places!

Tell us a little about your hit album, Paraíso Nocturno. What was the recording process like?

Sensei and I have been working since 2000, and we set out to create a unique sound before the project got started. I’m involved in all my projects not only on the creative side, but also on a technical level by recording and editing my own vocals. It’s a longer process but I enjoy every minute of it.

What’s your favorite song on the album and why?

I like track number one, Paraíso Nocturno. That track has the perfect soundscape to kick of the entire project.

You just finished your Paraíso Nocturne tour at the end of last year. What was that like? Will there be more tour dates this year?

I wouldn’t call it a tour,  It was more of a promo run.  We went to the key cities in Canada that have always supported my career. These cities always get the first look at any of my projects.

fito 1We love the Solo Un Juego music video. Can you tell us any funny stories from filming?

It was a fun video to shoot because I got to spend time with Steven Guevara (the dirrector) and DJ Kemo two of my closest friends since my career began in 2002. It was cool to just getaway with them and work on this video together.

What’s coming up for you in 2016? Can you give us any hints?

Expect more new music along with new business ventures. 2016 is all about expanding the brand as well as giving back to the latin community I grew up in.

Who are the top three artists you’re dying to collaborate with in the future?

In no particular order…

Rubén Blades /Carlos Santana / Akon

In a perfect world all three in the same song, lol.

Do you have any advice for young Latinos who want to pursue a career in music? Anything you’ve learned over the years?

Keep working on your craft because the music will attract the right people in your life. Always let nature take its course, and remember that a hit record is undeniable. Your biggest asset will always be the ability to create music.

Last, but not least, what’s currently on your playlist? Any songs or artists you can’t get enough of right now?

I’m always listening to reggae and soca music. Those are the sounds I identify with the most. I also like the authenticity that artists like Nicky Jam and J Balvin are bringing to reggaeton music.

I like mixing it up a bit, with my caribbean roots and North American upbringing.
