Carla's Tips - Summer Fashion Staples

May the month be filled with sunshine and plans to plunge into an exciting summer. Spring has been a little bit elusive, but hopefully you’ve had the chance to update your wardrobe with a couple of items that look fabulous regardless. Now, it’s about time we start thinking about and looking forward to sundresses, sandals, and days out in the sun. So, to gear up for the summer festivities, here are some must have items that you should dust off and keep closeby. However, if you need an excuse to stop by the mall to grab one (or all) of these, you can totally blame it on me.

1) Nautical: There is no summer without Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day BBQs, pool parties and picnics. That means it’s time to definitely stock up on red, white and blue items, stripes and anything that makes you think of burgers and fireworks. You can even just buy items in these solid colors and colorblock. It’s all about being festive and having pieces that you can transform later on for other occasions and seasons.

2) Denim shorts: You live in your jeans, right? Well, this is the summer equivalent. Stock up on these on different washes, colors and embellishments. You can wear them over your bathing suit, dress them down with a t-shirt and sandals, or dress them up with a flow-y button up shirt and heels for a night out. Classic versatility, people.

3) Gladiator sandals: This strappy, show-stopping shoe is back in trend! You can join in with a more subtle look that closes at the ankle or you can go all out with ones that go all the way to your knees. No matter which look you choose these will look great with sundresses and denims shorts alike! If going for the knee-high ones, I suggest wearing sunscreen lest your legs become a criss cross of crazy tan lines. Another option is to leave this style for post-sunset-cocktails.

Stay fabulous,
